The "unhappy divisions", not only between sect and sect but within the same sect, have become a byword. That's not Ben at the right; it's Thomas Cranmer, Archbishop of Canterbury through the mid-1500s, whose lasting effect on the world was to compose the Anglican Book of Common Prayer of 1549.

We read and recite the familiar Lord's Prayer. It only takes a minute out of a day to say several of those prayers, so it is not like some big time-wasting ordeal. Was it to be borne that a despicable wool-carder should attack the Pontiff? To collaborate with The Prayer Book Society in England, and with other societies in the United Kingdom, and elsewhere, having compatible purposes. Side by side with the influence of the English extremists and of the foreigners — some of whom, including Bucer, the most prominent critic, could not speak a word of the language in which the Prayer Book was written — was the brigandage of men like Northumberland, who had no zeal for Protestantism — indeed, Northumberland professed himself a Papist on the scaffold.
